More Than Fireworks

On this July 4th Independence Day, I usually take time to read our founding document, The Declaration of Independence. I am always taken back by the ending of the writ, 'And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.'

No separation of church and state. No 'I was for it before I was against it.' Relying on God to protect them, they committed their all to this venture. Our freedoms all flow from their sacrifices. We should all reflect on this as we watch tonight's fireworks displays. Back in 1776, the rocket's red glare and bombs bursting in air usually meant something was going to blow up nearby.
